Mr Ceesay was born in 1965 in a rural village called Basse Dampha Kunda, Upper River region of the Gambia, West Africa, 377 Km from Banjul, the Capital city.
In 1979, aged 15 years old. Mr Ceesay embarked on his journey, travelling from The Gambia to Europe through Senegal and sub-Saharan countries, such as Mali, Algeria, and Libya, looking for a greener pasture. He currently resides in Hamburg City, Germany.
Alhagie Saikou Ceesay initiated the Dampha Kunda Diaspora Organisation concept. He aims to unite all citizens of Dampha Kunda village anywhere in the world ( as the saying goes, Unity is strength, and divided, we fall). Together, we can make a difference by improving Dampha Kunda Village's livelihood and our communities' surrounding villages.
Monday, 06th August 2018, in the evening, was a pivotal moment for implementing his dream. When a thought came to him, one of the most accessible social media communication platforms to reach out to mass anytime and anywhere in the world at your own convenient time to interact, chat, exchange messages and listen to audio is to create a WhatsApp Group which he called is Dampha Kunda Diaspora, and it is free to join.
His dream becomes reality. This WhatsApp group has over 218 active participants and six virtual departments, including the president committee, financial, police and security, credit control, IT department, and work and communication. This acts as a social media platform for all participants to interact with each other and to give updates about our village development projects and public announcements about anything related to Dampha Kunda village, such as Birth, death, and loss of relatives, family and friends—virtual meetings, discussions and initiates of village development projects.
Mr Ceesay often visits the Gambia, precisely Dampha Kunda Village , on vacation.
Accordingly, he felt an emotional trauma when he witnessed pregnant women, babies and children dying of preventable diseases such as Malaria, dysentery and common viral infections due to lack of proper medical facilities compared to the best health care facilities he has at his disposal in Germany. This inspired him so much and mobilised the Dampha Kunda Diaspora Community to come together and build healthcare facilities for social and infrastructural development for our communities in Dampha Kunda Village and the surrounding villages to support the existing healthcare system in the Gambia for those Rural communities.
